It was a ratio of 65% chasidim to 35% yeshivish.the fact that one sect had more does not take away from the achdus in the crowd.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-92035584418177021062012-05-30T16:44:33.378-04:002012-05-30T16:44:33.378-04:00The crowd was also dominated by the chasidimThe crowd was also dominated by the chasidimAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-75358872052998037362012-05-30T15:05:14.848-04:002012-05-30T15:05:14.848-04:00The achdus was among the crowd. I personally hated the last Siyum Hashas for the exact reasons you are mentioning. There was way too much pandering the the left wing and modern elements. I left very disappointed.

To contrast that to the Asifa, I left on a high. If you paid good attention to the marketing and the neighborhoods were it was marketed, it was never meant to be a unified effort of all orthodox jews, it was meant to be a unified effort among Chareidi Jews to tackle this problem the way that Chareidi Jews always tackled such problems.

By the way, if you attended the first Siyum Hashas in MSG (22 years ago), you would have found it to be very similar to the asifa. It was more a "right wing" crowd (Daf Yomi wasn't yet popular in the MO world) and the majority of the speeches were in Yiddish. I loved that one.ACKnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-27728536754947047192012-05-25T00:16:47.996-04:002012-05-25T00:16:47.996-04:00Well saidWell saidJrnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-13081148554981470212012-05-24T14:26:23.753-04:002012-05-24T14:26:23.753-04:00Im not affiliated with any organization, just a si...Im not affiliated with any organization, just a simple yid reflecting my thoughts.Tomim Thttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09358985107505490625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-34514314780994400762012-05-24T10:15:34.907-04:002012-05-24T10:15:34.907-04:00Are you a disgruntled asifa worker now working for...Are you a disgruntled asifa worker now working for the Agudah?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-212504132168839252012-05-24T10:12:49.673-04:002012-05-24T10:12:49.673-04:00Great post. Since I personally have had very bad experiences with the organizer and the backer of the event I was very skeptical but I understand that you wanted to be optimistic.

I think many people now see that the asifa was fundamentally flawed (and not just poorly organized).
Let's hope that at least people were inspired to be more careful with their internet use, even if they were left to themselves to find practical solutions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626610279159340013.post-58480089125123598952012-05-23T17:17:05.933-04:002012-05-23T17:17:05.933-04:00I suppose that was the tradeoff.
