Weather, not the only hot thing going on in Arizona. An Article featured on the front page of New York Times, harvesting wheat in Yuma, Arizona for Shmurah Matzah. Naturally the NYT had to focus on the Satmar vis Satmar rather than the Satmar Chabad unity.
In The Video the Shluchim are asked if it rained since they got to the field seven weeks ago, they respond not a drop of rain. They watched day and night Shabbos and Yom tov and Boruch Hashen not a drop of rain. They turn to the Satmar Rebbe Rav aaron Teitelbaum and say in hebrew EFES -zero rain drops. Dayan Brody, a Brisker, than confirms that when they got there in the beginning the wheat was green. In attendance was the Skver dayan of Lakewood, Rav Avrohom Spitzer.
Thinking out loud; discussing and debating the current issues and challenges affecting the Torah and yeshiva communities such as population growth, dangers of technology, parnassah, shidduchim, financial support of Torah and Chesed institutions, news of the yeshiva world and reviewing frum blogs,Torah media outlets.

Kol Koreh- Do not "Like" your fellow jew.
In the wake of the Internet Asifa and ongoing battle with the challenges of technology and the dangers of Social media sites, Rabbonim in Lakewood have issued a letter to both Frum Business owners and publications not to refer customers to social media sites. The letter also asks frum media publications, newspapers, magazines, not to print any advertisements for businesses that direct you to social media sites, specifically businesses that ask customers to "Like us on Facebook". Using Gedolim to promote an agenda.
Lets face it, Rav Chaim kanievsky would not want us blogging or surfing online. His statements about the internet are very strong. Recently many bloggers and frum websites took upon themselves to defend the kavod and honor of Rav Chaim kanievsky and Rav Aaron Leib Shteinman. They did so by bad mouthing, saying lashon hora, spreading machlokes and being mevazeh Talmidei chachomim, all in the name of being moche for the gedolei hador. An article starts off with a blaring headline about bizuy gedolei hador, and the next sentence is full of vitriol and hate against an entire chasidus. They have no problem degrading other Rabbonim and Roshei Yeshiva where they attack anyone who is not in line with their small mind.
This couldn't be further from the truth. If you are here to stand up for kavod shamayim, Kavod haTorah you wouldn't use Rav Chaim or the Satmar Rebbe, Rav pam or any other Gadol to promote your agenda of hate against other frum yidden whom YOU disagree with. Do these bloggers and webmasters do everything Rav Chaim holds of and practices?
The bloggers. Tweeters, and haters would turn white, if the Gedolim or their Rebbeim who are in the next world would see what they write online. The Gedolim don't need endorsements from so called anonymous bloggers, website owners who only hide behind them and use their name to further a personal agenda. Yaakov Avinu did not want his name associated with the story of Korach, would these Gedolim really want to be associated or appreciate a plug from these frum bloggers and tweeters?

The recent $1.7 million study on the Jewish population in New York sponsored by the UJA Federation of NY, has found shifting patterns amongst new yorks jewish community. It notes that New Yorks Jewish population has become more Orthodox on One end. The study found rising poverty rates among Jews. In New York City, 27% of all people living in Jewish households are poor, compared with 20% a decade ago. More than one in ten Jewish households is on food stamps. UJA Federation officials have stated that they are “immensely proud” of the report, which they say will play a role in “helping us and others to better serve this segment of our community and form strategies” for combating poverty.”
Orthodox Jews now make up almost a third of the entire Jewish community in the survey area, and 64 percent of Jewish children here live in Orthodox households, which have high birth rates. These numbers contributed to a 9 percent increase in the Jewish population over the past decade.
Well, lets hope they will have a zechus to give tzedaka to a worthy jewish cause and help the poor, rather than squander jewish money for non jewish causes such as this -The study also found 50,000 Jews living in 33,000 households that have an LGBTQ individual. Nebach.

Within the Orthodox sector, Hasidics make up the largest subdivision, with 16 percent of the overall Jewish population in the region covered by the survey, reported The Jewish Daily Forward, adding: “Ultra-Orthodox households are far bigger than non-Orthodox households. The mean number of Jewish members of a Hasidic household is 4.8, compared to 1.8 in a non-Orthodox home.” Poverty rates are high among older Jews, and among the Orthodox. Hasidic Jews are the poorest Orthodox group – a full 43% of Hasidic households qualify as poor.

Agudath Israel, Orthodox Union, issue statements in response to supreme court ruling on DOMA
Agudah issued the following statement:
“Society’s mores may shift and crumble but eternal verities exist. One is marriage, the union of a man and a woman. Its sanctity may have been grievously insulted by the High Court today, but that sanctity remains untouched.”
The following statement is from the OU .

Today, the leadership of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America issued the following statement:
“In response to the decisions announced today by the United States Supreme Court with reference to the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8, we reiterate the historical position of the Jewish faith, enunciated unequivocally in our Bible, Talmud and Codes, which forbids homosexual relationships and condemns the institutionalization of such relationships as marriages. Our religion is emphatic in defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman. Our beliefs in this regard are unalterable. At the same time, we note that Judaism teaches respect for others and we condemn discrimination against individuals.

#klalyisrael #yiddishkeit is not trending online
In today's era of social media any event that takes place is not only measured by the magnitude or success of the event itself but is also measured by how it trends on Twitter or how it ranks on other social media sites. Nik Wallenda, walked over the grand canyon on a tightrope, yet the media kept on reporting how it was trending number one on Twitter. as if the feat in itself is only as big as the rank on twitter.
Many of the frum bloggers spending their time online, blogging, twittering etc.. don't get the real picture or feel the pulse of klal yisrael. You get caught up in the negativity and formulate a unrealistic pulse of the frum torah community. The picture of klal yisrael painted online, is bleak and black. Issues of molestation, abuse, kids at risk, shidduch crisis, bizuy gedolim dominate the conversations. One gets the impression that everything out there is bad, that we are doomed and the Rabbanim are not doing enough.

Yiddishkeit, is not live or trending online, it is vibrant, in the families raising children al derech hatorah, its in the yeshivos hakedoshos, its in the shuls, in the hearts and minds of klal yisrael.
To get the real feel of klal yisrael you will not find or capture it online. Go outside look around at the thousands of yeshiva bochurim learning in their respected yeshivos. Witness and partake in the many simchos that are taking place as young couples begin the journey of building their bayis neeman. That's where klal yisrael is alive. Yes there are issues and challenges to be dealt with and they are being dealt with.
For some reason the frum blogs, commenter's and tweeterrs, never miss an opportunity to champion their cause as those who are out for the tzaros of klal yisrael. If there is an asifa or a siyum hashas its not good enough, they tweet " we need asifas for victims of abuse". Why don't the Rabbis do this and that. It seems some of these people enjoy the attention they get from championing an emotional cause and wont let any other positive event or thing take place without their constant negativity drawing attention to themselves more so than to the cause they represent. As we approach the Three weeks lets go out and get a reel feel temperature and feel and see the beauty of klal Yisrael.

Who is our voice?
who is our voice ?
One frum Torah Website calls itself the Online voice of Torah Jewry, only thing is, the webmaster and editors are all anonymous, unnamed, and unaccountable. There are no names of Rabbanim listed, or any mention of a rabbinical board. This website has recently featured two articles posting letters attacking the free weekly Newspapers specifically against one thats distributed in Flatbush and Lakewood, which is the voice of Flatbush Jewish community. It questioned the content of some ads and letters to the editor, the lack of oversight by the editors and called upon Advertisers to rethink their advertising in such a paper.
Every paper has mistakes that slip through, some apologize the next week others just move on, just last week a website with no oversight pulled some stories that were mevazeh gedolim. Did they apoligize or explain why it was posted? At least the so called free weeklies have an editor who is not shy to put a name and face to the paper. If you agree or disagree thats up to you, but they are not hiding anonymously behind a screen calling themselves the online Voice of Torah Jewry or representative of the Yeshiva world.
Just last week, there was a public outcry calling on the so called frum kosher sites to stop being mevazeh gedolim, spreading machlokes, and to report the kosher news without the shmutz. Why is there a heter when its not in print? The frum print media would never publish any content in the frum online blogs. The answer is simple the so called websites that are the voice of the yeshiva world and Torah Jewry are anonymous and have no accountability.
Who am I ? I'm a nobody, not claiming to be anyone's voice.

Frum papers too, report along party lines on Atzeres against Giyus bnei hayeshivos
For someone spending a few dollars a week to get his news if you bought the Yated Ne'eman or daily Hamodia or Mishpacha you wouldn't know much about what was said or which Gedolim attended the Huge rally in Foley square against drafting Bochurim to the Israeli Army. On the other hand Ami magazine especialy had full coverage of the evnt. Mishpacha magazine dedicated a special issue about the draft but did not report on the event in New York. We reported on the Online frum blogs HERE now its the print media too.
To be fair Both newspapers posted a picture on the front cover about the NY protest. The Hamodia gave a fair report but very limited. It did mention that other gedolim were opposed at having a protest at this time. The Yated, reported on it as a larger story of assault on the frum. It did mention that it was organized by Satmar and only gave a quarter of a page news report in form of a press release, the same article appeared on matzav.com with some slight changes. Only one sentence mentioned that the speakers highlighted the serious nature of the gezeirous facing torah Jewry in EY,and the need to be mechazek in Torah and tefillah. The Yated Editor Rabbi pinchos Lipschutz is a Talmid of Philadelphia Rosh yeshiva, HaRav Shmuel Kamenetzky shlita who issued a letter to his talmidim not to attend the protest. If your a talmid of Chaim Berlin you wouldn't know that Rav Aaron Shechter was there, nor would you know which other Litvisher Roshei Yeshiva were there, none of the speeches were transcribed or reported what was said. Oh, how many people were there? well the last sentence mentioned it was estimated to be between 50,000-75,000. Guess thats not a significant fact when that many Yidden get together.
On the other hand AMI magazine editor Rav Yitzchock Frankfuter is a Talmid of Harav Dovid Soleveitchik Rosh Yeshiva Of yeshivas Brisk in Yerushalayim, who Issued a strongly worded letter calling on bnei chutz Laaretz to attend. Rabbi Frankfutter noted that in his article and reported extensively on the Protest in Federal plaza on June 9th, 2013.

The Secular media, gets it! with Coverage on Protest.
The frum Bloggers and Pundits predicted and warned " I will not join the protest in Manhattan its going to be a huge Chilul hashem" It will be anti Semitic and anti Israel" I would rather join the Puerto rican day parade" said another. It will be a asifa of hate. They should worry about other things. bla bla bla
Let these amateurs take a lesson from the big boys, the Secular media and see how the press covered the Protest in Manhattan. The leftist liberal Haaretz got it right with this headline.
"Thousands of ultra-Orthodox demonstrators gathered in lower Manhattan to protest Israel's efforts to draft Haredim into the IDF, and fight for what has been largely the domain of Israeli liberals: Religious rights".
The article didnt spew any hate or bias against the frum, unlike the way it was reported in the frum yeshiva torah websites and blogs. Perhaps they are not as resentful to American Jewry as they are to the frummeh in EY which would be a strong reason why a hafganah in New York is effective. Israel's leading Paper Yediot Achronot also had fair coverage pointing to the fact of religious freedom.
The haters wished they would have some red meat to show for themselves after the protest, They wanted to have a blaring headline what a Chilul hashem took place, unfortunately, the protest did not go according to their wishes. Desperate to write Shmutz, 2 frum websites posted a picture of One Individual who held a sign against Rav Shteinman and a Hateful article against satmar.

Reb Elye Ber Wachtfogel has strong words about Frum news Website posting picture to be mevazeh gedolim.
Speaking to his Talmidim Yesterday after Shiur Rav Elya Ber Wachtfogel the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva gedolah of South Fallsburg, spoke out very strongly against the frum website that published the picture and video of a man holding a sign against Rav Shteinman. The point was to portray all those gedolim and those who attended the Atzeres as if they are in agreement in being Mevazeh a gadol. The Rosh Yeshiva had very strong words to the owners of the site.

Bias in the frum Torah online media.
Move over new York Times, the recent coverage of the Atzeres protest against Giyus Bnei hayeshivos in manhattan's federal plaza has brought the frum online news websites/blogs reporting to a new low.
Among the tens of thousands who attended the rally, stood one man holding a sign that was mevazeh a gadol hador. It was quickly removed by organizers and the man was removed by the police on hand. Throughout the protest organizers called on people to put down signs. Instead of reporting positively on the event and or at least somewhat objectively these anonymous sites who champion themselves to be the online voice of Torah Jewry and the representative of yeshiva world are fully entitled to side with whomever they want on this issue. No one is forcing you to agree or take a stance. However, to ignore the fact that there is another opinion, many Roshei Yeshiva both in the US and in EY were supportive of the Satmar led rally is bias to say the least. To write a post showing a picture of a man holding a sign against Rav Shteinman with a headline "This is who you are partnering with" is a low blow and an insult to the thousands of yidden and Roshei yeshiva who were there, accusing them of being mevazeh Rav Aaron Leib. (Thankfully to their credit the editor pulled the post). The other site left it up with a video for all to see.

A blogger and contributor to one of these sites is quoted by the daily news."The protesters were siding with Israeli residents who "feel like they're being forced to drop the Torah, drop the learning -- which is not the intent" of the proposed legislation. I will be dan Lkaf zechus that he was misquoted or not understood by the reporter. All one has to do is listen to the Gedolim speak, who all said the intent here is shmad and redifas hadas. If you disagree go join with Yair Lapid dont associate yourself with the Yeshiva world.
As long as theses websites are anonymous with the editors hiding behind their screens and no Rabbanim backing them, we can not take anything that is reported there seriously. They are just like the rest of us, Bloggers. Update HERE

Recap and report on Atzeres protest against draft of yeshiva students in New York June 9th at Federal plaza
Rav Aaron Schechter |
Rav Shmuel Miller Rav Eli Chaim Swerldloff Rav Osher Kalmanowitz |
Tens of Thousands of Yidden attended the Atzeres/rally in lower Manhattan, federal Plaza against the drafting of Bnei Hayeshivos to the Israeli Army. The Demonstration was organized by Satmar and joined by many other Admorim, Chasidim and Roshei yeshiva as well. Attending Litvishe Roshei Yeshiva at the Rally were; Rav Elya Ber Wachtfogel, Rav Aaron Schechter, Rav Moshe Shimon shapiro, Rav Shmuel Miller, Rav Elya chaim Swerldloff, Rav Eli Sorotzkin, Rav Eli Yagid, Rav Lipa Margulies, Rav Asher Kalmonovitz, Rav Yaakov kokis, Rav Shea Krupenia from Lakewood, yeshivas Bais hatalmud, Rav Shlomo feivel Schustal, Rav Shmuel Shlesinger, Rav Binyomin Margulies, Rav Simcha Bunim Paler, Rav Moshe Meiselman RY Toras Moshe in EY, Rav Menachem Savitz, Rav Sholom zimmerman, and their respective Talmidim and yeshivos. While many individuals from lakewood went, the Lakewood Yeshiva did not attend, heeding the words of HaRav Aaron Leib Shteinman. Some signs held by neturei Karta with messages against Gedolei Yisrael were quickly removed by police. An NYPD spokesman Sunday night said there were no arrests associated with the protest. The initially planned march of sack cloths over the Brooklyn Bridge did not take place as was agreed prior to the event with the Litvishe Roshei yeshiva.
Most of the Speakers stuck to the theme of Giyus bnei hayeshivos, Drafting Yeshiva students to the IDF, they did not call for the destruction of the State or speak against zionizm. They mentioned how the army does not really want the yeshiva bochurim to serve rather the intention here is shmad. They want to turn the hakol Kol yaakov into Yedei Eisav. Today its Giyus bnei hayeshivos and soon they will start with Giyus Banos. The Chasidishe speakers naturally mentioned from the Heiliger rebbe. One speaker streesed that with the Army we wont compromise.
Speaking to the Media in English Rav Pinchas Jung of Monsey, NY mentioned how throughout history since Matan Torah on har Sinai there has been repeatedly fierce opposition to our way of life and Torah study. We have bravely resisted these attacks, our current crisis is not a new one. Powerful secular groups seek to undermine our flourishing houses of Torah study. We have gathered here to say to the government of Israel to live and let live, to respect religion, to allow those who toil in Torah study day and night and study the sacred message of the Torah. They will never deviate from its laws at all costs. We pray together for the ultimate redemption speedily in are times.

The sons of Rav Chaim kanievsky have issued a letter below stating their father has recanted and agrees with Harav Shteinman that Bnei Torah should not attend the rally in Federal Plaza it is signed by his two sons Rav Shlomo and Rav Yitzchok Shaul. Rav Elya ber Wachtfogel issued a letter HERE in the name of Rav Chaim supporting the opinion of the Brisker Roshei yeshiva that bnei Torah should attend the Satmar demonstration against Giyus Bnei hayeshivos by the Israeli Govt, on Sunday June 9th 2013. On Erev shabbos HaRav Shmuel Kamenetzky the Philadelphia R"Y issued a letter to his Talmidim Not to go to the protest. Letter in the name of Rav Chaim Kanievsky about upcoming Atzeres this Sunday June 9th.
A letter written By Rav Elya Ber wachtfogel Rosh Yeshiva of South Fallsburg, quotes Rav Shlomo Kanievsky son of Rav Chaim Kanievsky in the name of his father that Bnei Chutz laaretz should go out and protest the Gezeiras hashmad.
The Gedolim agree, Something must be done about the Pending Gezeirah of Giyus Bnei Hayeshivos drafting them to the Israeli Army. What we have are differences of opinion and chilukei Daios how to Go about it. Harav Aaron Leib Shteinman is of the Opinion, that the way to fight it, is to be mechazek in Torah and More Torah learning. Hafganos and public protests he said are not effective, will not help or change the current Matzav. The lakewood Roshei yeshiva decided not to send their yeshiva. There are other Roshei yeshiva more aligned with the brisker shittah, Rav Shmuel Auerbach, Rav Dovid and Rav meir Soleveitchik, as well as Satmar that hold we must publicly protest and make a machah. "Az es tut vey shreit men" we must close the gemorah and come out to protest. Eilu V'Elu. There will be bnei hayeshiva from Litvishe yeshivos who will be attending.
Unfortunately there are those who will use the Protest to attack and be mevazeh Roshei yeshiva, Admorim, or others that do not hold of their way. Hopefully the Askanim will foresee to make sure the demonstration in Manhattan at Federal Plaza will be a Kiddush hashem it is challenging explaining the nature of the hafganah to the Secular media. Hopefully they will have the right spokesmen explaining in a way they will understand what we are protesting about.

Kosher Lashon Hora ?
What differentiates the frum media from the Secular press besides for having a place to present the news with a Torah Hashkafa, we are limited in the content due to Torah laws we abide by. We are not permitted to print the latest Gossip and lashon Hora or publish shmutz. Sometimes all we can report is Dog bites man.
The frum media both print and online in blogs and comments, has lately taken on to a negative, hateful and angry tone. Be it a rant on a website, a article in the paper or mainly in the letters to the editor section of many newspapers and free weeklies. Most of the letters are signed anonymous or with a pen name. The letters in nature are either attacking, rebuking, expounding upon the shortcomings of another yid ,or simply a place for people to let out their frustrations on a recent incident that happened to them. For example, one letter is yelling at the guy in shul who was talking loudly on his cell, or the car that cut me off, the brother in law who said a insensitive comment, or a shvigger complaint. On and on these letters to the editor are one of the main enjoyable feature in many newspapers.
While initially the letters are meant as a forum for readers to comment on a previously printed article, it has become a place where the common folk can have a place to discuss their ideas and concerns about various issues. Many good ideas and actions have been formulated through positive discussion in these forums and letters. However it has recently turned into a not so friendly place. Where people have an enjoyment and get their daily fix by publicizing someone else's wrong doing or shortcoming. What is the point to be mefarsem what happened in the grocery or at the doctors office. If it bothers you, go approach the person to his face and tell him what you think. Halachacly there may be a problem with the issur of ארור מכה רעהו בסתר. The content of these letters are not what will bring the geulah, as we approach Rosh Chodesh Tamuz let us work on seeing the good in each other and write positive stories
