Among the tens of thousands who attended the rally, stood one man holding a sign that was mevazeh a gadol hador. It was quickly removed by organizers and the man was removed by the police on hand. Throughout the protest organizers called on people to put down signs. Instead of reporting positively on the event and or at least somewhat objectively these anonymous sites who champion themselves to be the online voice of Torah Jewry and the representative of yeshiva world are fully entitled to side with whomever they want on this issue. No one is forcing you to agree or take a stance. However, to ignore the fact that there is another opinion, many Roshei Yeshiva both in the US and in EY were supportive of the Satmar led rally is bias to say the least. To write a post showing a picture of a man holding a sign against Rav Shteinman with a headline "This is who you are partnering with" is a low blow and an insult to the thousands of yidden and Roshei yeshiva who were there, accusing them of being mevazeh Rav Aaron Leib. (Thankfully to their credit the editor pulled the post). The other site left it up with a video for all to see.
A blogger and contributor to one of these sites is quoted by the daily news."The protesters were siding with Israeli residents who "feel like they're being forced to drop the Torah, drop the learning -- which is not the intent" of the proposed legislation. I will be dan Lkaf zechus that he was misquoted or not understood by the reporter. All one has to do is listen to the Gedolim speak, who all said the intent here is shmad and redifas hadas. If you disagree go join with Yair Lapid dont associate yourself with the Yeshiva world.
As long as theses websites are anonymous with the editors hiding behind their screens and no Rabbanim backing them, we can not take anything that is reported there seriously. They are just like the rest of us, Bloggers. Update HERE
Wow. Best post I read all day. Realistically, we all have our biases, but this is truly a low blow. The only answer is for the Agudah to start their own website/blog. It is high time. This will also hopefully be a medium for publishing unforged letters. It is shameful the way these "torah" sites promote their own politicians, their own agenda etc.

Clearly "the online voice of Torah Jewry" does have its own agenda, and is only interested in promoting the views of certain gedoleim and R"Y and being mevatel other gedolim and R"Y.

In addition, for some time after the protest, "the online voice" had a summary of which Gedolim were for and which were against, noting that Rav Dovid and Rav Meir Soloveitchik were for the protest.

However, this story was subsequently taken down, presumably because Pinny lips has decided that his own view is daas torah and he doesn't want to promote the views of certain Gedolei Yisrael.
IMO, to focus too much on the "true intent" of the Yesh Atid people and their supporters is misguided.
ReplyDeleteThere are many many people who support this effort and their motivations probably vary by individual. There are a lot of people who would love to wipe out Torah cv, and these people probably think the draft will help in this regard. But there are undoubtedly any number of other people who don't hate the Torah and who simply feel that it's wrong for a segment of society to refuse the same service that the majority has to put forth, while at the same time insisting that the majority support them while they don't work for a living.
Ignoring this sentiment in favor of focusing exclusively on the most virulent opponents of Torah is useful for rabble-rousing, but is a mistake long-term, IMO.
Is the report accurate that Rav Nachman Stauber stated during his speech: "the very existence of the state is a rebellion against God"?
