Oy, a Knish shortage! In the news today, a major concern. Knish Kvetching, after a fire at a factory billed as the world's biggest maker of knishes has created nationwide shock and oy for those who can't seem to find the Jewish treats anywhere. The company promises an end to the knish Krunch by thanksgiving which coincides with chanuka.

The real Knish shortage we should be concerned about is
not the Knish as in Jewish snack food made popular in North America by Eastern European immigrants, eaten widely by both Jewish and non-Jewish. We should be concerned about the "Real Knish" the Jewish tradition and yiddishkeitt hat was brought here from Eastern Europe. Let us Kvetch about the "The assimilating Knish", the recent Pew survey  of American Jews significant rise in those who are not religious, marry outside the faith and are not raising their children Jewish — resulting in rapid assimilation that is sweeping through every branch of Judaism except the Orthodox.  The intermarriage rate,  has reached a high of 58 percent for all Jews, and 71 percent for non-Orthodox Jews. 

As we approach Chanukah let us reach out to more yidden, that was the call made recently at the kinus hashluchim of chabad, among many other kiruv organizations that are out there fighting the battles of assimilation, bringing Jews back to their heritage.
