Why are the bloggers silent?? why are they not worried about the safety of the children. A bus driver in Monsey working for the East Ramapo school district private school route taking kids home from Cheder Chabad of Monsey, was arrested for allegedly ditching students a mile from their designated stop. He was charged with a misdemeanor and suspended from his job. Floyd James was charged with child endangerment. Freed without bail, he is due in Ramapo Town Court on Oct. 7, police said Monday.
VIN which reported the story only less then 10 comments posted, FM didn't post it yet. Even more shocking is Rabbi Horowitz who is at the forefront of protecting children did not tweet or mention this story at all. Not only that but VIN reports this is not an isolated case. A similar incident happened in 2012 at Yeshiva Darchei Noam ( Where R' Yakov Horowitz is dean) and officials did nothing about it initially.
The answer is simple the bus driver here is not a frum Jew. He is not a charedi its a non news story. So what if children were dehydrated and had to walk in high temperatures to their home. It dosent serve their agenda. Had the driver been a yid the haters would have come out in droves. Even if he would have been arrested they would blame the frum for not obeying laws you would hear about the need to educate the frum bus drivers etc..Boy would the comments come pouring in. Its obvious, that charedi bashing is their agenda masked and disguised as advocates for child abuse.
I don't understand.
ReplyDeleteThese reports allege that, in a very small number of cases, a gentile exercised extremely bad judgement that ch"V endangered precious and young Jewish lives. No motivation was given for these bus incidents, for that matter.
You seem to agree that the silence of the "anti child-abuse activists", or whatever you want to label them, regarding those incidents, is not an inherent wrong. However, it seems your implication is that if they are so concerned about Jewish lives then they would also have made a big ruckus about these incidents, too. Since this is not the case, you feel that "charedi bashing is their agenda masked and disguised as advocates for child abuse".
There are a number of problems with this theory.
First, you haven't correlated the causes of their activism in the cases of molestation R"L L"A to these bus incidents. For example, "sunlight is the best disinfectant" would seemingly apply to the former but not the latter. Therefore, activism should be encouraged for the former and not necessarily the latter.
Second, you haven't correlated the anticipated results of their activism between the two. Bashing these people on Jewish blogs could CH"V backfire and we don't need to antagonize our neighbors. (Of course, if this were anything other than a fluke then a different response would be called for. Maybe hire private Jewish drivers. Whatever.)
But as noted at VIN, it seems one of the drivers was fired and it is hopefully highly unlikely for this to happen again. Whereas if, as is alleged online, that this despicable enabling of molesters has been occurring for decades, then how else will it stop?
Finally, how about calling or emailing these activists and alerting them to these stories and asking for their reactions. Maybe there is a particular reason that silence and behind the scenes efforts were the best combination of options in these particular cases.
I don't know people's motivations and, it is still possible that you're correct that these activists have an additional agenda than what they state. I don't know. But your argument is not persuasive, in my humble opinion.
no reason to call or email for the reactions of these activists. They are on top of every story they are all on social media. Its in this case that the driver was not a frum yid so its a non story. on your claim "Bashing these people on Jewish blogs could CH"V backfire and we don't need to antagonize our neighbors" thats sounds like the satmar shita of hisgarus beomos since when have these bloggers adopted that. Do they use the same judgemant when they publicize and attack frum Jews for any wrong doing. Have they thought of the chilul hashem that comes along with that?
DeleteI don't think Mr Horrorwitz can really be associated with Darchei Noam other than to use it as a method to take money for himself. They have removed him from any sort of involvement there other than photo ops for the Urinal News.
ReplyDeleteOf course the Urinal News and the brilliant commenters on VIN have tried to find some way to blame this on the Jews. That's why it took a week for the story to be posted. They had such a hard time trying to manufacture some way to blame the frum yidden.
Whether we like it or not, Jews are held to a higher standard than other people. In fact, the Torah itself demands that we hold ourselves to a higher standard. That is why there is a concept of "hillul HaShem" when an identifiably religious Jew misbehaves. Thus it should not surprise anyone when there is greater outrage when a religious Jew commits a Hillul HaShem. In fact, whe should be proud that we are looked up to in order to set an example. Saying "well other people do these bad thingss too" is not answer!
