BDE: Hagaon Harav Aryeh Finkel, zt”l, Rosh Yeshivah of Mir-Brachfeld

Rav Aryeh Finkel zt"l
MODI’IN ILLIT - (Hamodia)The Torah world mourned the loss of a beloved Torah giant with the petirah of the Rosh Yeshivah of Mir-Brachfeld, Hagaon Harav Aryeh Finkel, zt”l.
The Rosh Yeshivah, a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah and of the Nesius of Mifal Hashas, among the greatest disseminators of Torah in our generation with thousands of students, was niftar late Tuesday night at his home in the Brachfeld neighborhood of Modi’in Illit. He was 85 years old.
The Rosh Yeshivah was a member of the legendary Finkel family of Mirrer Roshei Yeshivah. Born in Eretz Yisrael on 14 Av 5691/July 28, 1931, he was the son of Harav Chaim Zev Finkel, zt”l, who
founded Yeshivas Heichal HaTorah in Tel Aviv and served as Mashgiach of Mir Yerushalayim; a grandson of Harav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, zt”l, the legendary Rosh Hayeshivah of Yeshivas Mir in Poland and founder of Yeshivas Mir in Yerushalayim; and a great-grandson of the Alter of Slabodka.

Rav Aryeh was also the nephew of Harav Beinush Finkel, zt”l, Rosh Yeshivah of Mir Yerushalayim until his passing in 1990. Rav Beinush’s son-in-law, Harav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, zt”l, then served as Rosh Yeshivah until his passing in 2011.

Besides the shiurim that he gave in Gemara in the Mir Yeshiva, first in Yerushalayim and later on in Mir-Brachfeld in Modi’in Illit, which he headed since its founding in 5760, he was known as one of the Gedolei Baalei Mussar of our generation.

The levayah was scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Mir-Brachfeld yeshivah, and then proceed to the Mir yeshivah in Yerushalayim. Kevurah is to be on Har Hamenuchos.

Yehi zichro baruch.

  1. May G_d decree that Rabbi Aryeh Finkel has permission to stand before His throne and intecede on behalf of all Jews, especially those Jews who believe in Torah Min HaShamayim.

    Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski taught:

When Rabbi Nachman [of Breslov, born 1772 CE and died in 1810 CE] said that despair does not exist in reality, he meant to say that: If you feel hopeless, [then] you should have the presence of mind to recognize that this feeling can have no basis in reality.
You should realize that the feeling of despair is a distortion of reality, a hallucination, or delusion brought about by the sitra achra [the side of evil].
