We are deeply dismayed by the efforts in Eretz Yisroel to draft B’nei Yeshiva and remove them from the Beis Medrash, the wellspring of Torah to which they dedicate their days and nights. The perseverance and security of Hashem’s people are rooted in its dedication to Torah study, as Chazal comment on the posuk “Our feet were standing at your gates, Yerushalayim”: “What will enable our feet to stand firm in war? The gates of Yerushalayim, where [Jews] devote themselves to Torah study.”
We appeal to the members of the government in Israel not to take any steps that will in any way negatively affect the B’nei Yeshiva and their study of Torah. For Torah study is “our life and the length of our days,” which will “lead us, upright, forever.”

The saddest part is the self-hate coming from our "modern" brothers who are "Frum".
ReplyDeleteLapid has clearly stated that he would like to equate reformed and conservative "judaism" to Torah Judaism in every way. In state funding; in being able to perform weddings; in conversion etc etc. Anyone with a thinking mind understands that Lapid hates Hashem and is seeking to fight Him, His Torah and His people.
He is exactly like is father in ideology. He is simply more skilled in PR - being a TV personality. Thats Lapid.
What's mind-boggling is the strange bed-mates his politics has brought him.
The MO who have joined him, due to their jealousy of the Torah-world is very sad. They fail to see how lapid is using them and how Lapid hates them for any Mitzvos they do. Their "good" feeling of doing battle with the Chareidim L'dvar Hashem will be very very short lived. They are next on his list.
May we do teshuvah, now as then - in the times of Achashveirosh and Haman.
It might have helped if it wasn't so obvious that the Agudah considers the terms "State of Israel" or "Medinat Yisrael" toxic.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, everyone knows there will be no general draft of Chareidim. It'll be talked about, threatened, negotiated and go nowhere. However, the most hysterical the Chareidi response the more likely something will happen because of the resentment in general society.
R' Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI don't claim to know the mind of Lapid, let alone the mind of HKB"H (though I do seek the latter through learning his torah), but I strongly doubt your contention that those MO who are chareid l'dvar hashem (who rush to do HKB"H's will) who have "joined" him are driven by jealousy of "the Torah World". My guess is rather that they are jealous for the Torah world and wish to see it flourish in its natural state in a Jewish state and influence those who have not yet returned home physically and/or spiritually to start the journey
