Here are some "surprising facts"
-Armed with professional degrees, Yeshivish men and women are entering once forbidden fields—law, accounting, pharmacology, psychology, corporate business—that bring them into increased contact with other sectors of the Jewish population.
-Hatzolah ambulance drivers don’t check the pedigree of people needing hospitalization, any more than Chaverim only help Haredim locked out of their cars. The most famous “store” giving away free clothing, Bobbie’s Place in Flatbush, serves Haredim and non-Jews in the neighborhood equally.
-As many as 20 percent of students at the Lakewood yeshiva Beth Medrash Govoha were raised in non-Haredi homes. And Lubavitch too has attracted significant numbers to its brand of Hasidism.
Apparently this Wertheimer received a grant from Avi Chai Foundation. I don't know if he used the proceeds for this article. However, one would think that the guru at Avi Chai, the good Dr. Schick could help point out some of the silly, perhaps egregious, errors in the article. Dr. Schick does profess to be a representative of the Hareidi/Yeshivish world.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way anything close to 20% of BMG is from non-Charedi homes. Maybe 5%. (Sefardim are a bit of a wild card.)
ReplyDeletethat depends what you call "charedi".
ReplyDeletealso none of the those fields were ever "forbidden".
