Rav Shteinman was able to get up but than later during davening was not able to stand up during shmoneh esrei. People in the house tackled the perpetrator and held him untill police arrived.
A doctor was summoned to the home to check out Rav Shteinman who said he does not feel well. Rav gershon Eidelstein Ponoviz Rosh Yeshiva said it is shocking to hear what happened. Not since the days of Zechariah hanavie has something of this magnitude happened. Even in Russia we didn't hear of this. We must make a cheshbon hanefesh and be mechazek in Torah learning.
Following the incident Rav Chaim Kanievsky called for an Atzeres macchah for kavod haTorah. One of the Bnei Bayis sat on the floor and tore Kriah for the bizayon hatorah that took place.
Sad story. Sad that the Rabbonim need to engage in politics. Sad that some feel the need to attack the opposition physically.

Conflicting reports wether this was political at all. Family of suspect claims he was emotionaly derranged. Something went wrong.

ReplyDeleteBut even deranged people do things for reasons. In this heated atmosphere, a deranged person takes things that he hears too strongly and goes overboard.
Reports are that RSA has received death threats.
I noticed in RCK's letter that he did not speak against any talmidei chachomim, but only said that people use them for their own agendas. But that was just because I read the letter. A lot of people just read summaries of these things in the media, and in the media is was reported differently.
