Let these amateurs take a lesson from the big boys, the Secular media and see how the press covered the Protest in Manhattan. The leftist liberal Haaretz got it right with this headline.
"Thousands of ultra-Orthodox demonstrators gathered in lower Manhattan to protest Israel's efforts to draft Haredim into the IDF, and fight for what has been largely the domain of Israeli liberals: Religious rights".
The article didnt spew any hate or bias against the frum, unlike the way it was reported in the frum yeshiva torah websites and blogs. Perhaps they are not as resentful to American Jewry as they are to the frummeh in EY which would be a strong reason why a hafganah in New York is effective. Israel's leading Paper Yediot Achronot also had fair coverage pointing to the fact of religious freedom.
The haters wished they would have some red meat to show for themselves after the protest, They wanted to have a blaring headline what a Chilul hashem took place, unfortunately, the protest did not go according to their wishes. Desperate to write Shmutz, 2 frum websites posted a picture of One Individual who held a sign against Rav Shteinman and a Hateful article against satmar.
Oy. individual. Do a spell check. Thanks. No need to approve this comment.

DeleteI would appreciate it if you would explain to me why refusal to serve in the IDF or do national service for those who are not learning Torah full-time is a matter of "religious freedom. While it is true that there are certain religious sects in the US and England that refused to do military service on grounds of concience (the Mennonites, Amish, Quakers) I am not aware of any Jewish groups making such a claim. In addition, I believe many of those Christian concientious objectors DO a form of national service in lieu of military service. However, I don't believe the Haredim are prepared to even to that. Is that indeed the case here?
ReplyDeleteFinally, the Women of the Wall are demanding the right to pray at the Western Wall using male religous paraphenial...tallitot, tefillah, reading the Torah, etc Since the Haredim are demanding religious freedom for themselves, are they prepared to honor it at the Kotel for others?
The protest was about yeshiva students that are currently learning in yeshivos not getting an exemption.
DeleteWoman off the wall.. You cant Argue religious freedom in the relm of Halacha and religion itself. Freedom is only to be religious not to twist the religion.
Be careful who you want as your allies. Your piece here is trumpeting the fact you perceive that Ha'aretz is supposedly on your side. Publisher Amos Shocken has written several articles calling for Jews to intermarry in order to end Jewish "ethnocentrism". The paper also continually is running columns demanding an end to brit milah. Yes, Ha'aretz is moving more and more in the direction of becoming anti-Zionist, because Zionism is viewed more and more by the far Left, of which Ha'aretz is the mouthpiece, as the modern manifestion of ORTHODOX JUDAISM which they strongly opposed.
ReplyDeleteTherefore when the people who ran the demonstration demanded "FREEDOM OF RELIGION" in order to persuade outsiders (i.e. non-Haredim and even non-Jews in Israel and the US) they apparently did't realize that freedom of religion is for EVERYBODY and these people don't know what halacha nor would they care about even if they did, and this includes Ha'aretz. They want to use your demand for freedom of religion in order to dismantle the Rabbinate and to completely secularize Israeli society. Your argument about halacha being involate is competely meaningless to them.
Haaretz is very bad, Was just bringing out a point.
DeleteWas the demonstration covered by the NY daily papers? Seems strange that 20-25000 people gathered in Manhattan and not a peep?
